Flu & Cold Fighting Formula

cold_fluI am inspired to share my kick-bootie “Flu Fighting Formula” with you as I have been literally surrounded by students, clients, friends, etc. down for the count for up to 2 or even 3 weeks this season!

I have used this formula to stay cold & flu-free even though I know I’ve been exposed.

First, let me say that a good foundation REALLY helps … so, the basics – rest, nourishing foods appropriate for you, staying hydrated, exercise and self care – all make the formula do it’s job more easily.

Here’s my super-powered formula:

  1. Use Young Living Thieves spray and essential oil blend regularly and often. I spray my throat with the spray, as well as the air or surfaces to disinfect. I diffuse the essential oil blend as well as apply it the bottoms of my feet and around my throat area. **See ordering info for Young Living below

In 1997, studies conducted at Weber State University on Young Living’s Thieves oil showed it to have a 99.96% success rate against airborne bacteria. The bacteria cultures were sprayed in an enclosed area, and Thieves essential oil blend was diffused for a given amount of time. After only 10 minutes of exposure, there was a reduction of 82% in Micrococcus luteus, 96% in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and 44% in Staphylococcus aureus.

  1. Thymus Thump – Sounds kind of funny, but I swear by this easy little trick. Your thymus gland is right at the sternum or heart center area, and by “thumping” on this spot for 20-30 seconds at times when you might feel you’ve been exposed or feel a little something coming on, helps stimulate the thymus helping to boost your immune defenses. You can also just do this daily during the season to help keep you healthy. I personally do it after meditation or in the shower.
  2. Seasonal/Colon Cleanse – Fall is the season of the lungs and large intestine in Chinese medicine, so the theory is that these areas need some extra support at this time or they become susceptible to illness. Treat yourself to a seasonal cleanse during this time. I’ve been doing my own fall cleanse using Young Living’s Cleansing Trio. It’s super easy as you need only take the products to get results, not necessarily adhere to any strict diet. However, I do suggest being mindful and kind to your system.

* Click here Fall Colon Cleansing for the full instructions for using the Cleansing Trio to this email for you to enjoy!

  1. Process your emotions. Autumn can be a time of letting go, which can bring on grief. It’s critical to allow these emotions to flow through and be expressed in a healthy way. If not, they will be stored in the lungs and cause weakness and susceptibility to getting sick.
  2. Young Living Oregano oil or Inner Defense. If I feel at all like I’ve been exposed to something, or just want to be sure to keep the buggies away, I swear by either taking a couple of drops of pure YL Oregano oil in a gel capsule at night for 3-5 days. Young Living also has an already encapsulated formula that I love called Inner Defense, which is a fabulous formula to take daily during this season.
  3. Change your diet with the seasons. This does not have to be complicated. I definitely enjoy eating as much raw as possible, but this shifts as the autumn season sets in. Add more warming and pungent seasonings like ginger, curry, cinnamon, garlic … and start enjoying some nice soups using seasonal foods like leeks, winter squash, celery root, carrots, parsnips, etc. Another food I love at this time of year is daikon radish. Looks like a big white carrot and tastes like a mild radish. Enjoy grated raw or steamed in your meals.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please understand that my recommendations for taking essential oils internally are only using Young Living brand which I know to be pure, authentic and potent therapeutic grade oils. DO NOT use just any oils in this way as they can be unsafe, and at the very least simply not provide results. Also, this information is not intended to cure, treat or diagnose any disease. It is intended for informational purposes only.

Why I eat Essential Oils

EverydayOils2.22120418There is a powerful natural tool that I have been using for almost a decade that has hugely impacted my health, my hormones, my emotional balance, my ability to heal from trauma, to clear negative emotions, to assist with digestion, to strengthen immunity, reduce stress, sleep better, gain clarity, uplift my spirits, increase energy, open up to intuition, beautify my skin & body, heal health issues … I could go on …

I have been using potent, concentrated plant essences, aka essential oils, every single day for almost 10 years with incredible results both for myself and the clients & friends I’ve shared with.

And yes, one of the ways I use them daily is by taking them internally – “eating” them. 🙂

Is it safe to take essential oils internally?

Definitely!

IF they are of true therapeutic-grade and safe to ingest.

How can you know?

By using a trusted, researched company that has a solid foundation behind it.

Young Living is the company I’ve been using for all these years, and I know and trust them completely.

I want to be clear that I am not trying to “sell” you on these essential oils, but to share my experience and stress that NOT ALL essential oils are created equal.

What I’m sharing with you here is to be applied ONLY to tested, verified, pure therapeutic grade oils. Please do not go to the health food store and use just any oils because they are inexpensive, etc.

Here are 2 of my favorite everyday oils that I “eat” daily, and why I LOVE them!

I guess I’m finally feeling ready to come out of the closet on this and share with you. 🙂

Two favorite essential oils & how I use them

Lemon

Lemon essential oil has a pleasant, purifying citrus scent that is revitalizing and uplifting. Lemon is great for removing household stains, disinfecting counter tops, and even refreshing your laundry. Its powerful germ fighting constituents match lemon’s pleasant aroma. Diffuse Lemon Oil to protect your home form airborne bacteria and put a drop in your drinking water for both extra vitamin C and to keep your liver clean.

I take lemon oil with me when I travel, so that I can use it in my water without having to worry about carrying around/finding lemons.

I add 2-3 drops of lemon to my morning smoothies (along with orange and grapefruit) to increase vitamin C levels, add a flavor enhancement, uplift mood, increase antioxidants and help preserve my smoothie if I am packing it up to take on the road.

I also enjoy it added to homemade pesto or other dishes as an easy option to grating lemon zest – yummmm!

Peppermint

Peppermint oil is one of the most highly regarded oils for supporting digestion — just rub a drop on your abdomen, or put a drop in a glass of water. For fever relief or hot flashes, place a drop of peppermint on the back of your neck and a few drops on the bottom of each foot and then breathe in the remaining oil on your hands.
Are you experiencing discomfort from an injury? Rub a few drops of peppermint directly onto the injured location. At the onset of a headache, rub a few drops on your temples, forehead and back of the neck.

I had one client share with me that the peppermint has been a miracle for hot flashes.

I use 1 drop of peppermint on my tongue as a pick-me-up or breath freshener. Pure peppermint is quite strong, so this is can be too much some. Best to add to water and drink if that’s the case.

I also enjoy adding it to raw chocolate for a delicious chocolate peppermint treat, or to homemade raw ice cream (peppermint, chocolate chip of course!).

Peppermint is one oil that is always in my purse.

Important Note about using oils internally/in food:

When oils are added to water or water-based foods, the flavor can be more bitter and intensified, so 1 drop is all you need.

When oils are added to foods that have a fat content (avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, nuts/seeds, etc.), the flavor and intensity mellows and sweetens, so more can be used.

In general, therapeutic oils are very potent, so a little goes a long way.

Does Failure = Success?

sometimes it's not so black & white

sometimes it’s not so black & white

Betcha didn’t know this about me …

I dropped out of not one, but TWO colleges! Then never ended up completing a formal bachelor’s degree. When I decided to drop out of college #2, I thought “ughh, what a failure I must be!” … “Everyone is going to think I’m a big failure & drop out!

Here’s the thing … quite the opposite occurred. When I announced to my fellow Dance majors that I was dropping out and leaving, many of them called me brave, and actually said that they wished they could do the same …

What?!!

“But aren’t I just giving up?” I thought.

This belief that I was a failure was not actually what my higher self knew to be true. It was just my ego afraid of giving up an identity that had shaped who I thought I was for almost 20 years. I had always been “a dancer”.

The reason I had to leave a career track that I had worked so hard at for so many years was because my heart, body and spirit knew this was not the path for my highest good. When I made that very difficult decision to “throw away” all that hard work, I actually felt like I had no other choice. It was like the divinely guided, wiser part of me took over, and I simply had to stop.

So I threw in the towel, and what I discovered was that I was exhausted. Mentally, emotionally, physically spent. I had been so abusive to myself for so many years, that all parts of me had had enough.

I knew I could feel better somehow, but I didn’t really know how … yet.

Fast forward through working with multiple healers, holistic nutrition school, yoga trainings and massage certification. Then forward on through multiple investments in business trainings, high-level mentors and coaches, mastermind groups and learning about internet marketing … and I found myself working with individuals and groups from all over the world coaching them around their mental, emotional and physical health, and essentially holding space for them to shift their lives in positive ways on all levels.

What I’ve discovered along this path, is that when we listen to that inner knowing/your heart’s truth/intuition (or whatever you want to call it), you create space for more of what you are here to experience, do, enjoy and receive. You open more fully to better health & relationships; more opportunities for business and income growth; a greater ability to serve; and increasing freedom to really live your life’s purpose.

Now, was leaving college a failure? In some people’s eyes it can absolutely look that way.

Is the dissolving of a long-term relationship or marriage a failure? In some people’s eyes it can seem this way.

Is making a poor investment or business choices a failure? In some people’s eyes in can definitely look that way.

Is losing faith in yourself and your gifts a failure? Only if you stay there and allow it to keep you small.

I have had so many “failures”. So many times where I was led to do things that seemed crazy or like I was giving up … or felt totally against the grain.

And I know without a doubt that they are what made me stronger.

They are what have fed into greater levels of success.

And most importantly, these “failures” have been rich compost that has nourished my continuing to evolve, grow and enjoy this beautifully rich life filled with love and beauty. Is it always pretty? No.

Is it always easy? Not at all.

But it has ALWAYS been beautiful and rich.

Sometimes we have to take a risk. ..

Sometimes it’s a risk of the heart.

Sometimes it’s a financial risk.

Sometimes it’s a risk of our “image”.

Sometimes it’s risking what others may think or what you believe you are supposed to do, but know in your heart you just can’t.

I believe as humans we all have the opportunity to live fuller richer lives by taking these risks … but I know that as an entrepreneur or “solo-preneur” these risks become almost mandatory.

But how do you know it’s a “good” risk? Usually, there’s this exhilarating mix of fear and excitement. Sometimes it’s just this gut feeling that says “I just have to”.

Can you think of the times when you’ve felt any of these “good risk” sensations or knowings?

Have you followed them or ignored them?

Have you encountered any difficult, but necessary leaps of faith? I’d love to hear from you in a comment below!

I’d also love to invite you into a very special opportunity where the only upfront potential risk is a little bit of your time.

I’ve been “secretly” coaching other holistic entrepreneurs and creatives in building their businesses, creating signature programs, filling their practices, increasing their income, and essentially supporting them in living more of their passion, purpose and truth as they serve in a bigger way.

I’ve worked with clients who are transitioning out of a job into having their own business, as well as those who have been getting by in their practices, but struggle to make ends meet financially.

If any of this speaks to you, I’m inviting you to a no-cost conversation with me, 1-on-1, where we can go over what you are struggling with, clarify your vision & goals, and create an action-oriented AND aligned plan to move you forward in your business and life.

Click here to schedule your complimentary session

And because of my commitment to the holistic process, I often weave a bit of health coaching into our work together. As one of my lawyer friends like to say “health is the best investment you can make.

Amen to that 🙂

Am I still doing health coaching? Absolutely!

If that is more of the support you require, then feel free to contact me to learn more about that as well.

Wishing you a beautiful emergence into the expansive joy of summer!

In loving support of your brilliance,

Ana

Ashleigh O“Before I began working with Ana my new holistic nutrition business was already falling apart! I didn’t have a niche market, I had no idea how to attract new clients, and I felt like I was running in a hamster wheel, I was putting in tons of effort but was not getting anywhere. Ana inspired me to find my passion again, make a plan, and take action! She helped me determine my niche market, create an entire 3 month program, and discover new ways to reach my target market. During our time together I began working with 2 new clients, have multiple talks set up for the future to reach more of the right people, and know how to create different programs for my business.
