Simplify Your Life Today!

simplicityThe holidays can often feel stressful and complicated with coordinating plans, travel, family, food, feeling alone, etc. The highest rate of suicide is at this time of year – yikes! But it truly does NOT have to be that way. There exists in each of us a place of open awareness & simplicity that is happy, spacious, light and at peace. Conversely, when things are complex, we tend to be in a place of unhappiness or suffering. “Complications” may show up as hidden stuck emotions, unhealthy relationships, resistance, unhealthy or imbalanced lifestyle, indecision, overwhelm, negative beliefs, addictions, depression, etc. This complex place tends to feel heavy and weigh us down.

This simple practice is designed to support you in letting go of whatever no longer serves you, while bringing in more simplicity, where you can feel lighter, more creative, inspired, fulfilled, whole, and aligned with possibility! Yay! 🙂

Simplicity Practice

1. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and ask yourself: “Is there anything in my life that is causing me to feel a sense of  discomfort, uneasiness, or pain?”

You can choose a persistent issue that has bothered you for years, or it may be something that has recently come up. It’s okay to focus on a chronic, physical issue, just don’t approach this practice as a cure. Rather the idea is to focus on patterns of perception that keep you held in a place of suffering.

2. For the next week, sit quietly for at least 5 minutes each day with the intention of clearing away complications. Choose one area you feel is most important for you right now, and focus there.

Through this little meditation, pinpoint the smallest possible action you can take, then take it. The next day choose the next smallest action, then take it. It could be that the first day you check to see that your sneakers are in the closet. The next day you might commit to putting on your shoes. The next day, you can choose to walk to your mailbox.

These small, but cumulative steps will keep overwhelm at bay, while bringing you closer to your goals and desires in a way that feels simple.

Some of the Common “Complexities” you Might Work with:

Lack of order – Clutter in your environment (even if you can’t see it)

Stress – Stress is inevitable, but if you are unable to release it at the end of the day, or feel totally overwhelmed by it, then you are overstressed. Make a list of stressors, then brainstorm on how to eliminate or change the impact.

Unhealthy Relationships – Be really honest about those relationships that may be draining or depleting, then come up with a plan. Set better boundaries, speak your truth and needs from the heart, or lovingly release them. A great way to nurture and grow the healthy relationships is to keep an appreciation or gratitude journal for that specific relationship. This feeds what you DO want.

Negativity – Where attention goes, energy flows. What we resist persists … and often grows. Shift your attention. Make it a practice.

Lifestyle – Do your daily routines, diet and lifestyle support you, your health and well-being? It’s as simple as shining the light, and then making the conscious choice to shift. Calling in the support you need to do this can add to lessening the overwhelm and complexity.

Raw Persimmon Pudding – Yummmmm

Hachiya Persimmon - Yummm

Hachiya Persimmon – Yummm

This super-simple, gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free fall recipe has just 5 ingredients, and will quickly become a favorite. Watch out, it’s totally addictive … but in a healthy way!

Persimmons are a beautiful fall fruit to include in your repertoire. They are a good source of vitamin A and Potassium, and help counter some of the dryness of the fall season. For this recipe you’ll need the Hachiya variety, which is pointed at the end like an acorn. Make sure you use them when they are COMPLETELY ripe and soft, otherwise you’ll be cursing me. 🙂 When unripe this variety will make you pucker and flinch, but when it’s ripe it’s creamy, sweet and delicious!

I like to eat this pudding just as is … or use it as a filling for a pie … or layered with vanilla Coconut Bliss in parfait glasses for an easy, elegant & guilt-free dessert.

Leave a comment below to let me know how you LOVE it … you will . 🙂

  • Ingredients:
  • 4-5 ripe persimmons
  • 1 Tbsp. (or to taste) fresh lime or lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. (or to taste) cinnamon
  • 1-2 tsp. vanilla (I used pure vanilla powder*, you can use a good quality extract)
  • 1 Tbsp. ground golden flax seed (the brown kind will color the pudding)**
  • **Note: You can skip the flax seed, but it just yields a slightly less thick consistency

Put it all in the Vita-Mix for the smoothest consistency. A regular blender or food processor can work too.

* You can get incredible raw vanilla powder here

Manifesting what you Want

1380681_10152010467511654_239014825_nThe other morning I was on a women’s circle call where we started to share with and support each other around how to do our “work”, create abundance, enjoy health … all from a space that feels good.

These are the words that flowed through me after leaving our call…

May they bring light to your day and inspire you to follow what feels good ALWAYS with knowing and trust.

Living by these words has absolutely transformed my own life.

May your discipline be Joy

May your “work” be Love

May your language be Beauty

May your actions be the Truth of your Soul

NAMASTE!

What if you Couldn’t fail?

FreedomI’m currently wrapping up a whirlwind visit to the east coast where I’ve enjoyed visiting and playing with friends, being with family, a gorgeous trip to Block Island … as well as 2 speaking engagements and teaching a yoga & essential oils workshop.

Whew!

All this and it’s barely been 2 weeks. 🙂

I will admit I’ve been missing my beautiful home, the Central California coast farmer’s markets … and most of all my sweetheart (insert demure blush).

On one of our daily calls to each other, he asked me the question: “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”

(He loves to throw these little “opportunity for growth” questions into the mix every now and again.)

Initially, I blurted out a string of things that I felt I wanted to do or experience, but currently wasn’t.

Then I realized that the reason I wasn’t doing them was not because I feared failure, but because I feared the unknown of whether they could “sustain” me, and support my ability to thrive.

It was a fear of letting go of the known in order to fit in the new, unknown.

Much of what I listed fed into life purpose or financial investment kinds of projects – leading body image empowerment retreats for teenage girls; writing a book; creating and beginning to teach a Holistic Yin Training for teachers & practitioners; invest in an income property …

And then there were the creative pursuits – doing ceramic sculpture; dancing and performing again …

And adventures – taking 6 months off to travel with my love; doing a vision quest; climbing Mt. Shasta …

And the emotional risks – opening up to loving fully and completely no matter what (feel like I’m kind of doing this one already)

What I realized was that the reason I wasn’t doing these things was much more complex than fear of failure. In fact, for many of them, I didn’t fear failure at all.

I became aware that I feared what I had to let go of in order to actually make space for certain things … or that I felt stuck or blocked by HOW to make certain things happen … or I doubted my abilities and worth, etc.

A lot came up, but I did realize a couple of key insights and learnings:

  1. I actually DO take quite a lot of risk in my life already … and fear of failure isn’t generally what stops me from taking more of the risks I still want to take. It’s a lack of trust in my ability to support myself outside of what is known. It’s more a fear of not surviving or making a mistake as to which decision I make (which could be seen as failure, I guess).
  2. I have so many things I do want to do! And sometimes it feels overwhelming. Instead of saying “Oh well!” and continuing on as I have been, I’ve decided to take the opportunity this question presented to be a bit more proactive about some of these “latent desires” by beginning to follow through on little baby steps. For example, signing up for a dance class or ceramics class; studying the map and beginning to highlight places I’d like to visit (and why); beginning a notebook dedicated to my retreat idea or Yin training; opening an account for my investment property, and depositing something every week … just a few ideas.

If you are serious about living an extraordinary life (not one that is ordinary), I’m going to invite you to answer this question for yourself:

“What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”

And do you feel like fear of failure is what stops you? Or is it something else?

I see again, and again when I talk to prospective clients, that it is often an underlying fear of failure that stops them from investing in the most valuable asset they have: Themselves and their health.

Has this happened for you?

Without your health and vitality NOTHING else matters.

Nothing.

When you commit to yourself and invest in yourself, you really CANNOT fail.

Really, you can’t. 🙂

As we step into the autumn season, a season of letting go of what’s excess and consolidating into the essence of what’s truly important, taking a little time to reflect on these questions is a huge gift to offer to yourself.

I’m also offering something kind of special thru October 15th, and hope you will take the chance to try something new, do something for YOU, and invest in your most important asset … for 50% off.
